Summary of the research. Second edition: comparison between 2003 and 2006 data
After the 2003 edition on the topic of the voluntary sector in Milan, the Board of Governors of the Service Centre for the Voluntary Sector in the province of Milan (Ciessevi) has provided for the publication of the second edition of the report, entitled “Il volontariato a Milano e provincia” (“The Voluntary Sector in Milan and province”). Its aim is to describe the voluntary sector and to bring out its role in the temporal dimension of its intervention in our city.
The survey’s field of observation is constituted by voluntary organisations entered in the provincial section of the Register and active in Milan and the municipalities of the province. The sources of information from which data was taken were the annual reports submitted by organisations to confirm their inclusion in the Register for the Voluntary Sector (Lombardy Regional Law 22/93). The data was current as of 31 December 2006, while the entry of organisations in the Register was in relation to 2007. The information source used for analysis is reliable, up-to-date and relevant from the statistical point of view. Specifically 1,053 factfiles were examined out of a total of 1,162 (90.6%).
The research is divided into three parts: the first presents a general overview of the organisations (a concise profile, financial reports and financial resources, an overview of services offered and the main problems). The second part contains specific information about the groups (organisational profile, selection and training of volunteers, relations with institutions). The final part highlights the main differences between active voluntary work in the city of Milan and in the municipal health and social service districts. The whole project was completed within the framework of an agreement between the provincial administration of Milan and Ciessevi.
